Calla Lily Valley: Pristine petals in the ocean’s embrace
This trail is one that you do not want to miss, especially during this time of year. At first glance, the unassuming trailhead seems like just another path off Highway 1. It is not until you venture toward the ocean when a hidden treasure gradually unfolds in front of you: a secluded valley, blanketed in pristine white Calla Lilies and lush greenery! Under the azure sky and the ombré Big Sur coastline in the distance, this view is simply mesmerizing and out of this world!
Tips
- The trailhead is about 2.5 miles south of Garrapata State Park and can be found on Google Maps by typing “Calla Lily Valley”. Make sure to download offline maps beforehand as the area has no cell service.
- Mid-February to early April is the best time to visit, when the Calla Lilies are in full bloom.
- Wear hiking boots, as the path can be muddy and slippery. Poison ivy can also be found in the area, so be sure to cover up to avoid any contact.
