You will want to take that turn on Highway 1. At first glance, the road leads to an unassuming residential area on the San Mateo coast—at least not until you venture further into the trail, when you realize that there is an unworldly sanctuary out there.
Fitzgerald Marine Reserve, located about halfway between Pacifica and Half Moon Bay, is a marine habitat hosting a diverse intertidal ecosystem from crabs, starfish, harbor seals and alike. It is also home to the Seal Cove Cypress Tree Tunnel, a 2.1 mile trail with overhanging cypress trees with sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean. Sheltered and tranquil, a visit here provides that perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
